Barter McKellar was founded by Heidi Barter and Caleb McKellar, who both share a passion for the law and offering clients personalized service to resolve their legal issues.
Heidi and Caleb have more than two decades worth of experience, Heidi having previously co-founded a law firm in Melrose Arch, heading up its Corporate Commercial Department and Caleb having garnered a solid reputation for himself in the litigation industry as a “cool headed, strategic and tough” litigator.
Heidi is a dual qualified attorney (South Africa) and solicitor (England and Wales), having practiced in both jurisdictions, as well as having served as in-house legal counsel in the Construction and Engineering Industry. Whilst in the United Kingdom, Heidi practiced at a prestigious law firm’s central London office as a corporate-finance solicitor and has been responsible for advising on and providing legal services for various high level corporate and commercial transactions for both listed and unlisted entities (the most notable being the largest Initial Public Offering (IPO) fundraising on the London Stock Exchange's AIM market in the first half of 2007). Heidi also has extensive experience in commercial and corporate law, commercial litigation, construction transactions and disputes, gaming law, labour law and property law matters. Heidi prides herself on her perceptive commercial drafting skills, astute business acumen and delivering legal services that make business sense.
Caleb is a qualified attorney (South Africa) who adopts a pragmatic, strategic and sensible approach to all his litigation matters. Caleb has assisted on and/or advised on various litigation matters in various forums such as the Maintenance Courts, Magistrates Courts, High Courts, Supreme Court of Appeal, Constitutional Court, various Bargaining Councils, CCMA, Labour Court and in alternative dispute resolution forums for both arbitration and mediation such as AFSA, private arbitration & mediation, administrative and regulatory tribunals (e.g. North West Gambling Board and the Broad Casting Complaints Commission). Caleb understands the nuances of litigation and uses his extensive skill and knowledge in this discipline to deliver strategic and shrewd advice with the aim of obtaining the best outcome for his clients and their matters.
